The first and only English-Russian Agricultural Equipment Dictionary was published in 1965 in Moscow (compiled by A. Rozenbaum et al). It contained approximately 16,000 entries. Many of this terminology is still valid, yet 45 years is a very long time for almost any industry, and Agricultural Equipment is no exception.
The new dictionary contains entries mostly on equipment, tools, parts, components, field operations, etc. However, also is included some financial, legal, business and computer terminology which is commonly used by people involved in the development, sale and operation of modern agricultural machines.
In preparing this dictionary, the author used various American technical journals, operator’s manuals, catalogs, protocols, online sites of different equipment manufacturers and other sources of information, such as personal lists of terms accumulated during work with US and foreign agricultural equipment companies.
English terminology is presented almost exclusively in American English. The dictionary also contains a list of commonly used acronyms, as well as model/brand names of machines and units.
The dictionary is intended for agricultural specialists, designers, manufacturers, operators, businessmen and translators. The author would appreciate any comments and critique in relation to this dictionary.
About autor of the dictionary:
Alex Zaytsev is the language translator and interpreter with some 35 years of experience. He does technical translations in Russian, English, Ukrainian, Belorussian, Polish, and French languages. He has dedicated much of his time in the areas of agriculture and performed work for some top companies in America, Western Europe and the countries of the Former Soviet Union. Alex Zaytsev also has previous experience in training and instructing in the areas of foreign languages. He is a graduate of St.Petersburg Pedagogical Institute. Also, he has an accredited status with the American Translators Association.
