ENGLISH-RUSSIAN DICTIONARY OF HEAT, HYDRAULIC AND POWER ENGINEERING

This dictionary is intended for researchers and engineers, translators of scientific and technical literature and students, as well as for all those who work at or interested in power stations and/or deal with heat, hydraulic and electrical engineering in other industries. Any power project is known to be created by specialists in different fields who need English-Russian dictionaries on their specialty. Unfortunately there are only few dictionaries published to cover terms of particular specialty, but no dictionary which would contain all or at least majority of terms used in power engineering as a whole. The latter is needed badly because specialists do not isolate themselves in their own lines - they have to speak to colleagues from allied trades and read and understand their documentation. That is why they would prefer having one overall dictionary rather than looking for a number of particular ones which, as it often happens, are never at hand at the proper time.

This dictionary is not an overall one. It has only collected as many terms of heat, hydraulic and electrical engineering as have ever been published in former USSR and present-day Russia. It also includes new terms appearing as power engineering develops, and terms used in nuclear power engineering. The above considered, the dictionary may be regarded as a step towards the creation of an overall English-Russian dictionary containing terms of all specialties involved in power engineering.

Information on author and co-authors

Author: Rybkin Vladimir Mikhailovich, professional interpreter and patent engineer, graduated from Moscow University in 1975 and Moscow Central Institute of Patent Branch in 1982. As an English-Russian interpreter worked at thermal power station "Nassiriya" under construction in Iraq (1976-1978), operation of thermal power station "Multan-2" in Pakistan (1994-1996), Busher NPP in Iran (1996-2000). Published a number of scientific articles on patent research for designing power plants. Awarded Veteran of Nuclear Power Engineering and Industry of the Russian Federation. Since February 2000 has been working as an English-Russian translator for joint stock company "Atomstroyexport" (Moscow) to construct Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant in China.

Co-author: Rybkina Oksana Vladimirovna graduated from Kharkov University, professional English-Russian interpreter, 15-year experience in chemistry and nuclear power engineering at Busher NPP (Iran) and Tianwan NPP (China).

Co-author: Zelenin Aleksandr Sergeyevich, professional English-Russian interpreter and certified engineer.

Current version of the dictionary program Polyglossum allows to one-step search through all the installed dictionaries. It is easy to search for cross-references and backward translations through all the dictionaries. So, it is good idea to use this dictionary together with some more Polyglossum dictionaries, such as common lexic dictionaries, other dictionaries on medicine and biology etc.
