The present Portuguese - Russian polytechnic dictionary, proposed to the reader, was compiled to satisfy the need of technicians, engineers and translators, who encounter in the process of their professional activity the need for translating scientific and technical texts from Portuguese language into Russian and vice versa. This dictionary is published in the electronic form, that makes possible to carry out also the opposite translation.
We assume that the need for the publication of this dictionary has long ago ripened, since the latter Portuguese - Russian Polytechnic Dictionary was published in Moscow in 1981 and has long since it become bibliographical rarity. Besides a comparatively small volume (36 000 terms), this dictionary does not include the contemporary terminology of the latter 20 - 25 years. Therefore, in the process of the composition of present dictionary, we paid special attention to the contemporary terminology: data processing, cosmonautics, electronics, aviation, nuclear physics, etc., having as a goal to give the most urgent and practical nature to this labor.
At the same time dictionary covers the basic terminology, utilized in the strength of materials, hydraulics, mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, and also the terminology of close to the technology sciences - mathematics, physics and chemistry. In the course of the selection of the terms, included in the proposed dictionary, we examined a large quantity of technical and scientific literature, mainly, Brazilian.
In the dictionary Brazilian orthography is accepted. Terms, whose orthography in Brazil and Portugal is distinguished, are given twice, moreover the term, written according to Portuguese orthography, is accompanied by reference to the appropriate Brazilian term. Example: electricidade f - ñì. eletricidade Dictionary is included the list of the reductions accepted, which indicate the branch of science or technology, to which this abbreviation relates, or the region, where this term mainly is used (Brazil, Portugal).

O presente Dicionário Politécnico Português - Russo, que oferecemos ao leitor, foi redigido com a intenção de satisfazer as demandas de vastos círculos técnicos e científicos que deparam, no processo da sua atividade profissional, a necessidade de traduzir textos técnicos e científicos do português para o russo e vice-versa. A forma eletrônica de edição do dicionário permite também esta última forma de tradução;
Consideramos o lançamento desta obra um ato premente, pois o último dicionário do gênero foi editado em Moscou em 1981, tendo se tornado, de há muito, uma raridade bibliográfica. Além de ter um volume relativamente reduzido (36 000 verbetes), o referido dicionário não engloba a terminologia moderna dos últimos 20 - 25 anos.
Por isso no processo de redação da presente obra dedicamos uma atenção especial ao vocabulário moderno, nomeadamente, processamento de dados, astronáutica, eletrônica, aviação, física nuclear, etc., visando atribuir-lhe desta maneira um cunho prático.
Ao mesmo tempo, o dicionário engloba a terminologia básica utilizada na resistência de materiais, hidráulica, mecânica, termodinâmica, eletrotecnia, assim como, a nomenclatura das ciências afins - matemática, física e química.
No processo de seleção da terminologia, incluída nesta obra, analisamos a literatura técnica e científica moderna, sobretudo, brasileira.
No dicionário foi adotada a ortografia brasileira. Os verbetes, que tem ortografia diferente no Brasil e em Portugal, foram dados duas vezes, sendo que o termo, escrito de acordo com a ortografia portuguesa vem acompanhado por uma referência ao respectivo termo brasileiro.
O dicionário vem acompanhado por um índice alfabético de abreviaturas, que indicam o respectivo ramo técnico ou científico ou a região em que se utiliza basicamente o respectivo verbete (Brasil, Portugal).
